128 - getting all merciless

PencilJack weekly sketch group again and again. Flash Gordon characters were up this week and I went all merciless, straight Ming the Merciless. Penciled and inked with brush pen.

127 - Orko or Who's your wizard?

ORKO!

Everyone's favorite epic fail wizard for these weeks PencilJack weekly sketch group. I always dug this little guy, of all of Prince Adams friends Orko made for some of my favorite moments or the course of He-Man. Great little guy.

126 - MM head sketch

Weird little head sketch for the PencilJack weekly sketch group. One option was musician and I thought a little crazy guy eye makeup Marilyn Manson might be fun to sketch. There we go.

125 - Sweet ride Kaneda

A quick little try out of my awesome new toy, Corel Painter 12. Don't let anyone tel you that those "retweet for a chance to win" tweets are a scam. Well some are, but not all. BIG THANKS go out to @corelsoftware. I re-tweeted one of their tweets and was chosen as the big winner, this Saturday a FULL copy of Corel Painter 12 showed up at my door. It's awesome so far and I can't wait to spend some real time with it learning all the changes and advancements.

So we have a Kaneda's bike from Akira, one of my favorite vehicles of all time for the PencilJack weekly sketch group. Enjoy.

123 - Roundhouse to the backside!

Don't know why but I got stoked as soon as I saw the topic for the PencilJack Weekly Sketch Group this week. Weird being as that I'm not a huge DC or Legion of Super-Heroes fan. But I got to say this image popped in my mind and it had to be drawn, just had to be. Nice to have that feeling, it's been missed around here for quite some time. Get your kicks fools!
Oh and that is Karate Kid from the Legion putting foot to ass to Bouncing Boy and over on the side is Invisible Kid yelling Round House!

121 - and that's how M.O.D.O.K. saved Halloween Charlie Brown

Last night was a blast, went to a really fun costume party that I originally wasn't really excited about. I sadly just hadn't been feeling the Halloween spirit this year and didn't even want to go out. I was stuck reusing an old costume of mine only because I hadn't gotten on the ball and planned to do something cool, totally my fault. But as it was yesterday afternoon I was not looking forward to the night.

Then everything changed. By friend Marvin called and asked if we were going and if I could help with something. He had decided to go as Drunk Hulk and had talked over different ideas with his pregnant wife Alicia, and they had hit on the idea of turning their unborn into M.O.D.O.K. for the party. I loved it, thought it would be a blast, and suddenly had a burst of energy and a much better attitude. A little bit of grease paint,        a black shirt with a hole cut in it, and the arms and legs torn off of a doll and sprayed purple and here we have it - my favorite all time unborn baby costume - MODOK!

Have a Happy Halloween!

120 - and the sign points to....

Getting a bit more work done. Sent off a copy of renditions of this here sign to a nice Realtor and her friendly little assistant. Now to just sit back and wait for their response. Oh wait, guess I could be working on my other projects, all  right, back to the cephalobot!

119 - get your Guardian

In between actual work pieces today tossed a little redesign on the Guardian outfit for the PencilJack weekly sketch group. Always thought at least one member of the team should be rocking the maple leaf dead center as the focus of the outfit. Alpha Flight representing the great white north.

118 - it's getting hot in here!

FURNACE style!

Heating things up with my choice of villain for from the Invincible universe for the weekly sketch group over at PencilJack. Furnace is just a great looking tech suit. If you are not reading Invincible I have to say I feel sorry you, it is indeed the best superhero book in the universe. It even says so right on the cover. Ryan Ottley is putting together what might be my favorite run as an artist since Mark Bagley on Spider-Man. Along with Robert Kirkman throwing plot twists and super fights at you every issue, it just can't be missed. Go read it!

117 - The Gaiscioch present the Telara Saga -Season Two

The Telara Saga

Watch the Trailer

I have had an immensely enjoyable time participating in the Telara Saga and am looking

 forward to Season Two.

The Telara Saga - Season Two

The Gaiscioch Social Gaming Community is pleased to announce the second season to their
smash hit "The Telara Saga". The first season took the Guardians of the Faeblight server on a
22-week adventure filled with PvP, PvE, and Roleplay. Each week progressing toward the
overall goal of sieging the Defiant capital of Meridian. At it's height over 500 players joined in
the adventure and worked together to conquer zones, defeat invasions, and complete zone
events.  The Second Season brings a new twist to the story as both factions unite to dismantle
the Dragon Cults. After learning of the Endless Court's plan to use the hatred between the
Guardians and Defiants to foster a war among brothers and their alliance with the other Dragon
Cults, the Telaran people realize that their only victory comes through unity. With the strength
of the Guardians, and the intellect of the Defiants, Telara shall be saved. Be sure not to miss
the next season of this exciting Faeblight exclusive, public community driven cooperative
event, happening every Tuesday at 6-9PM server time. Participate in the events that unfold
as the united Telaran front takes on the Dragon Cults. All levels welcome.
Visit www.TelaraSaga.com for full season 2 schedule and information

Story Overview:
The Guardians marched across Telara on a quest to destroy the Defiant leaders. Conquering
every territory on the way, the Guardians found themselves at the gates of Meridian ready for
battle. War erupted blanketing the Defiant capital in blood. Hundreds fell in the battle, only to be
brought back to fall again. Hours past and the soil became tainted by blood. The Defiant forces
fought with all their might sending the Guardians to the grave time and time again. As night fell
a scout rushed into Dacia Ultan's tent and delivered a message. The message that would
change the war forever.
The Dragon Cults used Cyril's blind lust for power to encourage a battle with Asha Catari, who's
revenge thirsty antics made easy prey to the clever ways of the Endless Court. The intent was
to keep the Guardians and Defiants killing each other long enough for the Endless Court and
the other Dragon Cults to establish a foothold and regain the upper hand in Telara.
The now enlightened Guardians and Defiants realize that it is only with the strength of the
Guardians and the intellect of the Defiants that Telara shall be reborn. They now join forces
for the next chapter of the Telara Saga.

116 - Electro feel the static

Sneaking in a sketch for the PencilJack weekly sketch group just under the wire again. One of everyone's favorites subjects was up, the deadly enemies of Spider-Man. I went with Max Dillon, a personal favorite. If you know him you might know him as the human dynamo ELECTRO!

114 - mutant quarters

The Mutant part 3! Here we gots the 3/4 perspective views for the big ol' mutant head, fun stuff. I will not stop, I will make it all the way through drawing the stuff in this book. I have a mental block now telling me there's no way I can be an actual artist until I draw my way through one of these drawing books I have hundreds of. And hell the practice won't hurt. Still have like 893 bad drawings to get my first 1000 out of my system. Better get to it.

112 - looking at the Mutant! or hey ain't nothing wrong with Ultimate Spider-Man!

Keep on cooking through August! Well 2 days in and doing well. Here we have the front view of the mutant character, nice horns, small forehead, high set eyes with a big ass jaw. More loving for my Hart book, I think I'm finally starting to pick up a little speed.

Bonus section - I've just got to put my 2 cents in about this whole new Ultimate Spider-Man thing. I read the USA Today article and it's a nice, short, well written article that first completely spoils what probably would have been a great reveal for people that planned on buying Ultimate Fallout #4 tomorrow when it actually hits comic shops, and second has given rise to a thousand idiots that feel the need to spout off about a character change.

First - damn it quit giving up details about comics to the damn media! Okay I know this one is going to raise Marvel's sales numbers which will keep the Mouse happy so this is how things will probably be from now on so there is no chance of fighting it. But damn, can't they find a way to bring in new readers without telling the stories in the comics I was going to buy before they come out?

Second - everyone of the people that put up a comment on the USA Today article need to ask themselves 1 question, are you going to buy the new Ultimate Spider-Man comic when it comes out and read it as a fan? If not, shut up, no one cares, you are complaining about a product that you don't buy. I could give a damn who is on the cover of the next Glamour magazine, I'm not going to buy it so my opinion of their choice of cover girl has no bearing. For those of us that are Spider-Man fans, and specifically Ultimate Spider-Man fans, we hopefully all feel as I do that it's great to have new Ultimate Spides stories after the great ending that Brian Michael Bendis gave us to the Peter Parker of the Marvel Ultimate universe. I have been reading Amazing Spider-Man for years, love the character. I own every single issue of Ultimate Spider-Man and have been reading it from launch, love the book, love the character. Ultimate Spider-Man and Amazing Spider-Man are 2 very different Peter Parker's, and I found that after 5 issues of Ultimate Spider-Man that that was a great and wonderful thing. If you are a Spider-Man fan then do the only thing that can be asked of the fans, read the first issue and then decide if it's a story for you. All this uneducated prejudging is a bit ridiculous. And just remember, Miles Morales isn't even the first non-Peter Parker Spider-Man with a different ethnicity people! I own a full run of Spider-Man 2099 by the amazing Peter David that starred Miguel O'Hara and that book rocked! Give Miles Morales a chance and let's see what Bendis can do with him. I have my fingers crossed that the Spider family is about to get another great member, but I could be wrong, either way I won't know until I start buying and READING the book.

I'll now step down from and put my soap-box away. Thank you.

111 - 3/4's of the girl's I know

Back on the track with a bit more of the pages and pages of Christopher Hart's Simplified Anatomy for the Comic Book Artist. This is a great book and I'm really enjoying working my way through it. I knew one of these days I would actually get around to plowing through one of these books. After all the money I have spent on these art books I need to do something with them.

A small aside - still loving my Netflix. 9 episodes into Dirt and loving every moment. It's so awesome to watch a full series on Netflix from start to finish. I finished watching all of the Avengers Earth's Mightiest Heroes cartoons start to finish, awesomeness.

And now back to our regularly scheduled program...

110 - Wabbit Hunting Fudd Style

A fun little doodle for the PencilJack Weekly Sketch Group # 217. One of the options this week was Elmer Fudd - Full Metal Jacket, one of the funnest ideas I have ever heard of. Did me a quick little Wabbit Killer and here we go. Love it.

Monday, July 18, 2011

109 - Armadillo a rollin!

Captain America and friends and not so friendlies are the picks for this week on PencilJack. I wanted to get in early and get something done right off the bat and went for a quick pen brush doodle of the awesomeness that is the Armadillo! Captain America # 308 peoples!

108 - inking it up Aqua Leung style

Had a great little bit of fun putting some brush inks down on a great sketch by Loston Wallace of Paul Maybury's Aqua Leung. You can check both of these guys out at their websites linked on their names or head on over to the awesomeness that is PencilJack were they both give out great advice and great art.

107 - Awesome Storm Justice 41 colors

Awesome Storm Justice 41, oh yeah!  We finally have the finished colors for Episode 30 page 5 by yours truly, got it done and sent off. Go to the ASJ41 website to check out the webisodes, some great funny stuff for your reading enjoyment.

This was a really fun project to work on. I have only done a little bit of digitally coloring but it has been a really enjoyable learning curve. Plus if you are going to color something, color something fun and interesting, it makes the whole thing so much more fun.

106 - There can be only one Kurgan

A little bit of ink brush work this week for the PencilJack weekly sketch group. I actually started the thing with the pencils and really didn't like what I came out with so I put a layer of ink down and ended up with a much better image. For those not initiated to the movie The Highlander this here is the Kurgan, made famous by Clancy Brown actor extraordinaire. The Kurgan was a great villain, if you have never seen the original Highlander go check it out as it is worth watching for Clancy Browns performance alone.

105 - Roll Out!

Some OG Optimus Prime for the super cool Weekly Sketch Group over at PencilJack this week. I actually didn't get it finished before Sunday night was over but as it is a holiday weekend and the next weeks options aren't up I'm gonna call it a win. Lots of people went with Prime as their choice for the weeks drawing but no one did him in truck mode and I beleive that the full semi trailer needed some love people! Good stuff.

104 - Ant that a peanut butter and chocolate Hank-ering

Ant Man Hank Pym getting hie peanut butter cup craving on. Pym particles would be awesome when your starving! Get something you really want to eat a ton of and then shrink down and go crazy!

102 - the colors of Awesome Storm Justice 41

The only thing better than something is something new. Here we have a bit of my work for a great webcomic series called Awesome Storm Justice 41, or ASJ41 that can be found here: ASJ41 link.
Check it out, there is some funny stuff and some great looking work, fun stuff.

My contribution so far has been to work on some colors for the webcomic. Here we have my finished colors for page 3 of episode 30 and the flats so far for page 5. This is only the 2nd thing I've tried coloring digitally and still find it to be a fun process. Plus I just updated my computer and now I'm seemingly having to learn CS4 all over again as all of my presets were lost and everything went back to default. Oh well, more to learn means more fun to be had.

100 - and still rolling with a Dash of Dredd

So the big 100! And things keep on rolling. We have here a little doodle for the PencilJack Weekly Sketch Blog and a nice Female head from the frontal view in my continuing attempt to draw my way through Christopher Hart's Simplified Anatomy for the Comic Book Artist. Things are good things are well. Enjoy all.

P.S. I am working on an idea for my first full fledged comic with a great guy and right now we are running through some great ideas and throwing things at the fridge to see what sticks. If all goes well we will have are own original tale of a zombie, with a twist no one has seen yet! How you like dem apples!
But for now we will keep all the details on the hush hush.

99 - get on the good hoof!

Get on the good hoof fools! Did a quick Gorgon sketch for the PencilJack Weekly Sketch Group, fun stuff.
Inhuman dance fever it's sweeping the nation!

Monday, April 4, 2011

98 - NOT Thanos!

Darkseid indeed! For the epic 200th version of the Weekly Sketch Group over at PencilJack. One of the choices for the week were the Jack "The King" Kirby Fourth World characters, pure greatness. Tried to channel my inner Kirby and get a little Darkseid going, don't call him Thanos fools!
Actually did 3 stages on this one, tossed down some blue lines, added solid pencils and then went over it all with some pens. Enjoy.

It even has that new signature smell! Great stuff. RIFT rocks and all the peeps over at Gaiscioch are the coolest. If you haven't seen the website you should check it out.

96 - Abe for the love of Daleks

Weekly sketch group over at PencilJack is still kicking with great topics and about to hit it's 200th anniversary week, great stuff peoples, check it out. Here is mine for the week. 2 of the options were Abe from Abe's Odyssey and any character from the Dr Who shows. Thought about it and my mind stuck on the idea of Abe finding a lost little Dalek screaming about how he is going to kill everyone. Fun stuff.
And FYI I find Twitter to be an evil waste of my time as I am now spending way to much time looking at all the sketches my fav artists are posting on their Twitter accounts from this con season-ain't technology wonderful1?

95 - more male views...huh?

Here we have more of the male hero head views. Big shot of the male hero from the side with the underlying structure sketch. Next is a page of 4 varying perspectives on the hero's head, with some very concerning changes to the size of the hero's hair, hmmm.  Oh well, could have turned out worse. Props as always go to the Christopher Hart book Simplified Anatomy for the Comic Book Artist.
And remember just because they offer it to you, doesn't mean you have to take it.

Sunday, March 20, 2011

94 - Alien on Spider-Mobile wheels

My fun for the morning. PencilJack challenge for the week made mention of Aliens-the Giger type and super hero vehicles. I decided to mix the two, though this made for a cool funny image. The weekly sketch group is a great thing, keeping my mind and pencil working.

Sunday, March 13, 2011

93 - wicked right hook

On to the next steps we go. We have the hero's head from the front view from our amazing book Simplified Anatomy for the Comic Book Artist followed by a real quick 10 min sketch for this weeks weekly sketch group over at PencilJack. If you have a moment it's a great site to go through, 1000's of drawings by 100's of artists of varying skill range from raw beginners up to professional comic artists, great stuff going up there daily.

Sunday, March 6, 2011

92 - the female mouth...shhhhhh

A new page of sketches...the female mouth and specific handling of the lips from the Hart book, Simplified  Anatomy striking again, fun book, I'm learning lots I think. The important part is I'm still having fun, so I keep on going.

And on this the weekend of of my second anniversary with my lovely wife we went out for a really nice dinner, went to see Drive Angry in 3D - which is a bucket of fun crazy, and when I got a little bit bored over the weekend the mohawk found its way home again. It is fun, and it is to laugh.

Saturday, March 5, 2011

91 - Multiple Man or boy...

Multiple Man sketch I did for the weekly sketch group over at PencilJack. I have always been a huge Jamie Madrox fan, the Multiple Man is a great character, I've always found it cool that he was a mutant whose power manifested at birth. For those that don't know Jamie's body converts kinetic energy, from impacts, into the creation of duplicates. Always made me wonder how weird his childhood would have been...long road trips...
