214 - My walls got all kinds of original!
The postman brought a package to my work on Friday afternoon. I now have 3 pages of original New Warriors comic book art with pencils by Mark Bagley and inks by Larry Mahlsedt. I will add these to my Comic Art Fans gallery soon.
I own Mark Bagley New Warriors pages. I AM SO HAPPY.
A huge thanks to Spencer Beck at The Artist's Choice for great service.

204 - Fast, Bolt Fast!
Another week and another 10 min sketch for the fabulous PencilJack weekly sketch crew fun times. I need to work on my speed and get more of the full overall impression of the image on the page before I try to get details. Gotta get fast, Usain Bolt fast baby!

193 - more complex shapes = more complex characters
Crazy day yesterday. If you have questions refer back to the nice short and simple blog # 192. Trying to get some work done today and had this ready to post so here it is. 2nd post from the Creating Characters with Personality by Tom Bancroft. Simple shapes make for simple characters so naturally what follows is more complex shapes make more complex characters. You must find you balance.

188 - An Oracle for You. But Ya Ahh, Barbara, Ya Aaaah In That Chair!
The 2nd sketch battle over at the lovely Read Comic Books.net that I took part in is complete and I luckily did not come in last place! Do to a flood of 3 votes right on the last morning my pretty little sketch seen here above jumped up to tied for 2nd to last place along with sketch "A". So it was fun and it could have been worse. The next sketch battle is the Rob Leifeld "Like-feld" contest, should be a blast!
Hope ya'll had a great weekend. I'm a Denver Broncos fan so my Sunday night ended in spectacular fashion. GO PEYTON!

185 - getting Super with RCB forums!
This was my entry for the last Read Comic Books forum sketch battle a couple of weeks ago. Posting now as we were working on keeping who did what somewhat anonymous. I liked the idea of a classic pose that is cropped in a way that you can imagine "your Superman" is the one in the sketch. Thought it turned out pretty well though I did not win the sketch battle. =-(
There is always next time and indeed there is a new sketch battle going on right now that is open for public vote. So head on over to the Bird's of Prey Sketch Battle and toss in your vote for best sketch.
Bonus - Molly Danger did indeed fund and I can't wait until this awesome book arrives!
2nd - How do you guys like the new banner? Let me know.

179 - a couple of toughs
This is the piece I did for one of my fellow penciljackers over on the PencilJack forums for X-Mas 2011. Totally forgot to post it. I think it turned out pretty well as this is the first time I had drawn either Concrete or the Goon and it was also the first time I had really went into a piece with the whole pack of pencils using various lead levels.

172 - a quick Quick Kick upside Cobra's head
A quick sketch from my version of Drink and Draw night that I've been doing @Brewforia every Monday night for the awesomeness that is @GeeksWhoDrink over in Meridian. Come by, it's a blast.
This is another one for the PencilJack weekly sketch group. Favorite G.I.Joe, which for me was Quick Kick who is basically the Joe version of Bruce Lee/Shang Chi. Pure sweetness. How you gonna mess with a Joe that doesn't wear shoes!

168 - Stump Smash!
For fun tonight did a sketch of a Skylander named Stump Smash for my favorite little guy Mr. Wilson. Skylander's are a really fun way to waste a couple hours with a little person.

166 - A Gully of a time!
Sneaking in under the wire again on a Sunday evening with my sketch for the PencilJack weekly sketch group. Gully from Joe Mad's Battle Chasers. This is not the little girl you want to mess with. With her daddy's power gauntlents she is more then a match for almost anyone.

159 - a Diabolical idea...
Working through an idea I've had about what I am calling the Diabolical Daycare. Copyright Anthony Bachman bitches, it's mine. Here are some character roughs I did tonight at Brewforia during our Geeks Who Drink trivia night.

151 - Leeloo with the Big BaDa BOOM!
A little Leeloo sketch for the PencilJack weekly sketch group. If you don't have a whole lotta love in your heart for Leeloo and the Fifth Element, than quit talking to me, you are not my friend.
This one turned out nicely. I like it enough I might color it just for fun.

145 - Petey the Ptetraventurer
Whole lots of other stuff going on but I'm sneaking in another PencilJack weekly sketch group piece right before the end of the weekend. Meet Petey the Ptetraventurer, king of the winged adventure, flying into trouble and fun all day!
Sadly Whitney Houston died this weekend but we were lucky enough to have an amazing tribute song by Jennifer Hudson on the Grammys, I almost teared up. What I find the saddest though is that I think I felt worse when Whitney Houston seemed to through away her career and talent chasing drugs, after that it seems this end was almost inevitable. Another great loss.
Well, have a great week people.

142 - Beware the Terrafin!
Quick warm up sketch today before the big work. Decided to do a Terrafin from the new Skylanders game. This game is on it's way to being a really big crack addiction for kids and parents as it has the collection aspect like Pokemon for characters and the amazingly smart ability for all character figures to be played across all 3 major game platforms as well as on the PC. Smart marketing and a fun game per my friend Marvin and his son Wilson's review. So for Mr. Wilson a little Terrafin sketch. This guy is a shark with earth based powers, Land Shark peoples!

141 - Task Master wip
Quick pop in to share a little bit of my w.i.p. for this weeks weekly sketch group over at PencilJack. Started this last night at Brewforia with my favorite peoples the members of Jack's Useless Knowledge for our Monday night Geeks Who Drink. Fun was indeed had by all again. Beer, trivia, food, and friends. Good stuff. This sketch might even turn out as good as I hope.

134 - Chew on this!
Trying to bring out my inner @Rob_guillory with this sketch here of the great detective Tony Chu from the even greater comic book Chew from Image comics. If you haven't read Chew yet you are missing out. Great mix of mystery and humor. I bought the first 4 volumes for the wife for Xmas and she is loving them so far.
I will post the rest of the process as it goes. Planning on inking this one and then maybe trying out the new Copic markers.

133 - simplified male muscle groups
Moving along through the Christopher Hart book still, Simplified Anatomy for the Comic Book Artist. Simplified muscle groups of the male superhero type from the front. Yep, yep.
I'm still loving working my way through this book while I work on other stuff and I'll be damned if this isn't going to be the book I finally draw all the way through.
Friday the 13th is coming people!
Damn I love Friday the 13ths. I graduated boot camp on a Friday the 13th. Hopefully this one will rock!

132 - the Boys Club
Today's post is actually an old sketch I've been meaning to work on. I called this the Boys Club. Tried to fill a page with Slashers, some of my favorite guys, and thought it was fairly noticeable that all the great slasher movie killers are guys. One of these days there really needs to be a well written female slasher.
Anywho, this year I have decided to increase my posts. I know the more I draw the better I will get, simple as that. New Years resolutions are usually really hard to keep and that is why I put mine off for a bit this year. Last year was fairly simple. I looked at my blog posts for 2010, 31 total, and set the reasonable goal of posting more in 2011. When I easily met that goal I decided to up it to at least one post a week for the year of 2011. As of the end of the year I had a nice big old stack of 59 posts, goal met.
So where does that put me. I guess simple goal this year will be a minimum of 60 posts. If that proves to easy, might have to raise it again. More drawing, more posts, more chances for people to see what I'm working on and hopefully more people will like what I'm doing.
Happy New Year everyone, now get on it.

129 - Krillin it in 2012
A little later than never here as DBZ characters were actually up for the PencilJack Weekly Sketch Group for last week. I need to plan my sketching time better, work on keeping the world from getting in the way. A new year, a new goal. Here...we....go
