174 - My favorite Martian, my 2nd favorite Marvin

155 - BERNARD in all his Copic glory!

Had to take another pass at my Bernard the World Destroyer, by the awesome Skottie Young, sketch that I was totally happy with and see if I could make it even better with some Copic love. The results are above and I dig it! This one is especially cool to me as the wife just got me some new Copics for our 3rd anniversary! I'm a lucky guy. Have a great weekend people!

154 - Bernard! Destroyer of Worlds!

Bernard! My fun time for tonight was pure inspiration from Skottie Young and his great character from the adventures of BERNARD the world destroyer. I finally remembered to drop a whopping $2 into my Paypal account so that I could grab this fine little digital download from Mr. Skottie Young's digital store. The hard copy version is also available at a bargain for $10. Whichever you get you will be rewarded with a fun story and some great drawings including a cool section filled with fan art from some names you just might recognize.

146 - like a Rat Templar?

Like a rat from a sinking ship, or a Rat Templar even. Ha! No this is in fact a re-drawing of a page from The Mice Templar with art by the astounding Michael Avon Oeming. Always give credit people. This was just an exercise in fun and practice for inking with my brush pen. I did a rough layout of the pencils from Oemings page in The Mice Templar and than I went straight to my brush pen and just tried to have fun with it. The easiest way  to tell that it's not a straight dupe or copy is to look at the ears - after I scanned it in I realized I completely forgot to put any shadow in the right ear, I'm a goof.

Onto other things. I have a question for anyone who reads this and is willing to leave a comment. My friend Colin and I have an idea for a comic. We have what could be a really great story and we have the idea of taking it all the way to publication if possible. We also had the idea of doing a weekly/semi-weekly podcast along the way to discuss out trials and tribulations as we go. The goal is to have the podcast go along with comic and then hopefully continue after we finish the first comic as Colin and I discuss comics, movies, pop culture, whatever comes into our sinister little heads. But here is where the question comes in. The Question For You?

WHAT THE HELL DO WE CALL OUR PODCAST?

So bear in mind that we want the name to work for a comic book podcast about the creation of a comic by two total amateurs and continue on even after we finish the comic. So below is the list of names we have been kicking around, let us know what you think. Are any of them striking a nerve with ya? Any of them sound good? Do you have an idea better than any we have come up with so far? Let me know in the comments and I'll pass the info along to Colin.

128 - getting all merciless

PencilJack weekly sketch group again and again. Flash Gordon characters were up this week and I went all merciless, straight Ming the Merciless. Penciled and inked with brush pen.

109 - Armadillo a rollin!

Captain America and friends and not so friendlies are the picks for this week on PencilJack. I wanted to get in early and get something done right off the bat and went for a quick pen brush doodle of the awesomeness that is the Armadillo! Captain America # 308 peoples!

108 - inking it up Aqua Leung style

Had a great little bit of fun putting some brush inks down on a great sketch by Loston Wallace of Paul Maybury's Aqua Leung. You can check both of these guys out at their websites linked on their names or head on over to the awesomeness that is PencilJack were they both give out great advice and great art.

106 - There can be only one Kurgan

A little bit of ink brush work this week for the PencilJack weekly sketch group. I actually started the thing with the pencils and really didn't like what I came out with so I put a layer of ink down and ended up with a much better image. For those not initiated to the movie The Highlander this here is the Kurgan, made famous by Clancy Brown actor extraordinaire. The Kurgan was a great villain, if you have never seen the original Highlander go check it out as it is worth watching for Clancy Browns performance alone.  

98 - NOT Thanos!

Darkseid indeed! For the epic 200th version of the Weekly Sketch Group over at PencilJack. One of the choices for the week were the Jack "The King" Kirby Fourth World characters, pure greatness. Tried to channel my inner Kirby and get a little Darkseid going, don't call him Thanos fools!
Actually did 3 stages on this one, tossed down some blue lines, added solid pencils and then went over it all with some pens. Enjoy.

80 - and another Thing

And the second pass, did a few touch ups on some of the line work and added in a bit hatching. Not sure if I like this one or the last one better.

79 - as Things go by

And here we have the first pass of scanning in the inks and cleaning things up a bit in Photoshop. Probably going to do another pass with the lines and touch up a few spots. Just really liked how this came out and felt like sharing. Hope y'all enjoy.

And just food for thought - I was thinking tonight about a Drink and Draw night here in Boise, I wonder if anyone would be interested?

75 -that Thing you do.

This drawing was originally done by Steve McNiven, all credit where credit is due. I have the image set as my desktop wallpaper at the moment. The original has Sue standing in front of Ben but I wanted to just work on the Thing so sadly no Sue Storm this time.

While looking at the image I started a sketch in Sketchbook Pro 2011, I got the image partially done and converted the image to blue lines in Photoshop and then printed it out and started inking it with a Prismacolor ink brush. I've been wanting to try this technique as I've been watching a lot of the videos that Skottie Young has up in multiple places(check out http://www.skottieyoung.com/ for some great stuff) and his way of working is very different from mine. So mainly it's just for fun.

After I worked on the ink for a bit I decided to add in more pencils and try to do the rest of the image. Added some lines with just pencil and I'm gonna rescan it and add in the rest back in Sketchbook Pro 2011.

I just threw this piece up on http://www.penciljack.com/ to get myself started there. Hoping for some positive art critique and feedback. I am also posting it here for both of my loyal fans, enjoy.
