89 -the Littlest Barbarian and a Tank Girl

My warm up for today was to throw down a quick Tank Girl for the PencilJack weekly sketch group. Think it turned out pretty good. Nothin like a comic about a hot chick with a love of guns and explosives!

The second pic is an idea I have had rolling around in my head for a bit. I'm trying to come up with a possible all ages comic about a little barbarian girl, possible named Camilla the Hun. Not sure of anything yet other than I want her to be twice as tough as she is cute. Just another thing to keep on the back burner when I'm not focusing on the work I should be doing.

88 - who nose?

Who knows? The nose knows for sure. At least I think so...
Anywho back to it with my progress through the great Christopher Harts book Simplied Anatomy for the Comic Book Artist, still traveling through its pages and getting my more prolific side moving. Also had a bit of extra fun with this one as I inked 2 of the heads with my 2 new brushes, ordered me a Copic Drawing Pen and a Copic Multiliner. As you can see I've only done a few lines with each so far but they both work nicely so far.

And on a love for NetFlix note - I am a little over half way through the 3rd season of Buffy and my love for all things Whedon is growing daily.

87 - Darth 3PO fools!

Weekly group sketch over at PencilJack had Evil Star Wars characters as one of the topic choices with bonus points for What If Star Wars Infinities characters. The second I read this I got the idea of Darth 3PO stuck in my head, for the first time in a long time I actually HAD to draw an idea out of my head. Love it.
Enjoy.

86 - color me wonderful

The experiments just keep on coming. I have finished my first piece done with digital pencils and inked by hand. I have finished my first page of pencils inked digitally. And now I have finished my first ever coloring job over someone else's work. A post was put up on PencilJack asking for help coloring some pages for a contest and I decided to give it a try.
As this is the first time I have ever tried to color something I think it came out pretty damn good. The line work is a bit choppy as I was coloring right on top of pencils with the inking step. If I were to move forward on this project I would either need to have the pages inked or ink them myself so the end result would be much cleaner. Now to post them up and see what the requester thinks of what I did with his art.
Fingers crossed!

85 - Angel in full Angelus mode

I have sixteen different things going on right now and after finishing my first page of digital inks I felt like actually just doing a regular old sketch. And lucky for me I am currently watching all the seasons of Buffy The Vampire Slayer on Netflix(best thing ever! I love my Instant Queue). During Season 2 Angel gets all evil again after nailing Buffy and turns into Angelus - his evil alter ego. Great stuff. Paused the screen and did a quick warm-up sketch, enjoy.

If you've never given this show a chance, do. If only for the comedy alone it is worth watching. Plus HUGE bonus, no matter how melodramatic the characters get on this show none of these bad asses sparkle, and thank god for that!

84 - page 1...paging page 1...

Here we have it, my first ever finished page of digital inks. This is a low rez jpg so don't let the zoomed copy fool ya, this turned out pretty nice. I'll put up a clean high rez later hopefully along with the colored version once someone on the Jam Session over at PencilJack pretties it up a bit.
This have proven to be a really fun project. Never actually thought I would enjoy inking something as much as I did while working on this. The fun of learning new software along with new techniques did make things interesting. Here's hoping the next piece will keep me as interested as I keep learning.

83 - inking page progress

Here's some progress on my first digitally inked page. Still lots to learn in Manga Studio, lots of little tools and techniques to figure out. Got until the 19th to finish this, gotta get back to work so it will be done in time for my deadline over at PencilJack.

82 - a couple of firsts

Well here we go with a stack of firsts. The above image is from a Jam session over at PencilJack my new home away from home, great place for comic book art enthusiasts. I threw my hat in to try inking a page for the new Wolverine/ Rorschach jam. Now I've never done digital inks before and I just today installed Manga Studio Debut 4 on my computer so I'm facing a double learning curve and all I can do now is pick up speed. Now I got a full pass done of the second panel on the page and have to say I am pretty happy with the results. I know there are a few things that I will change and touch up on the second pass and there is much to do on the rest of the page, but I think I am on the right path.

80 - and another Thing

And the second pass, did a few touch ups on some of the line work and added in a bit hatching. Not sure if I like this one or the last one better.

79 - as Things go by

And here we have the first pass of scanning in the inks and cleaning things up a bit in Photoshop. Probably going to do another pass with the lines and touch up a few spots. Just really liked how this came out and felt like sharing. Hope y'all enjoy.

And just food for thought - I was thinking tonight about a Drink and Draw night here in Boise, I wonder if anyone would be interested?

78 - what is this THING?

Step 2 done. Went back and made some changes after getting great feedback from the folks over at PencilJack, great forum. Got the digital pencils done and now I am going to print it out again and finish the inking by hand with my new ink brush ala Skottie Young style. I've never done digital pencils before and my inking skills as limited as they were are now also rusty, hopefully this turns out well.

Original drawing done by Steve McNiven.

77 - noses for characters

And more with the Simplified Anatomy by Christopher Hart. Now we have character noses, noses that help portray character types or characteristics. Fun page, except for that kid and his damned squished head. The Gladiator though I really like how he turned out. And on and away we go...
